What's included in our kit:
7 feet of thick wall reinforced high quality rubber hose.
(1) Custom stainless steel barb fitting machined from SS316 bar stock, the good stuff. Our fitting has the correct thread no need to re-tap your axle threads or jam a fitting into your axle. This is not a NPT thread. Also it's solid stainless steel so it won't rust and it’s much stronger than brass fittings that can break in your axle tube.
(1) See through air filter, so you can keep an eye on it. We offer two different filter types: a plastic disposable filter and a much nicer aluminum filter with removable and cleanable filter element.
(3) Stainless steel worm clamps. No rust on our kit. The 3rd clamp is so you can put the filter in-line of your hose should you choose.
(4) Extreme temperature zip ties. Extreme!
Of course you could piece together a kit but by the time you do your research, drive to multiple stores hoping they have the right parts, pay shipping costs & taxes you could have had our kit installed with no stress.
Installation Tips: We recommend using a thread sealant such as black RTV silicone on your barb fitting. This will help create a water tight seal as some axle tubes threads aren’t well cut or slightly damaged. The threads on the fitting are tapered which means you do not need to screw it down until it is flush with the axle tube to get a good seal. The tapered threads get tighter in your axle as you tighten it and create the seal. If you over tighten the fitting you could snap it off in your axle. This is more common with weak brass fittings than our solid stainless fittings.
Plastic filter folk: The filter is designed to fit 2 hoses sizes. We are using the larger hose size so you should cut off the smaller tapered end of the filter. This will reduce the restriction and allow air to flow more freely. It doesn't matter which way you install the filter.
Aluminum filter folk: It doesn't matter which way you install the filter. If the filter was going to see a bunch of contamination from one side you would want that contamination to hit the outside of the mesh inner filter. That way it would be easier to remove the contamination off the mesh filter after you removed it from the housing.

The rear axle breather vents air pressure in the axle helping to protect your axle seals and reduce leaks. Here’s why that is a good thing:
Under normal use the air inside the axle heats up and expands, increasing the pressure inside the axle which needs to be vented. If this built up pressure is not released through the vent the weakest seal will be forced to leak and release the higher pressure “blowing out a seal”.
Also when the axle cools down the air inside the axle contracts and creates a vacuum within the axle. Again with no vent the weakest seal will allow air to enter the axle.
The OEM axle vent which you replace with our kit is prone to getting clogged and not allowing any air in or out of the axle. This forces your seals to act as vents allowing air & junk into the axle and air & oil out of your axle.
Another major issue with the OEM vent is that it is screwed directly into your axle. This means that if your axle goes under water or mud that the water or mud can work their way through the OEM vent and right into your axle.
Example with a functioning OEM vent: You’ve been on the trails for an hour or so and come across your first water crossing. The air in your axle is nice and hot but as soon as your axle hits that cold water the air in your axle contracts, creates a vacuum and can suck water through the OEM vent right into your axle. We all know water and oil don’t mix!
Example with a clogged OEM vent: You’ve been on the trails for an hour or so and come across your first water crossing. The air in your axle is nice and hot but as soon as your axle hits that cold water the air in your axle contracts creates a vacuum and since your OEM vent is clogged your axle tries to suck water through your axle seals. We all know water and oil don’t mix!
Example with Our Vent Kit: You’ve been on the trails killing it having the time of your life and you come across your 10th water crossing. The air in your axle is nice and hot when your axle hits that cold water you smile knowing. Knowing that the air in your axle is creating a vacuum drawing in fresh, dry and filtered air through the unclogged fitting, rubber hose and filter that you installed.
